Sacraments

Anglicans join in common prayer. “Common” does not mean “ordinary”; it means that we all say the same words together when we pray, using set texts printed in a book of services. The priest does not extemporize in prayer; our worship does not depend on personality, novelty or the stirring up of an emotional reaction. We worship God in accustomed patterns, giving an order and stability to worship. There are variations, however, according to the seasons of the year.

THE EUCHARIST, or HOLY COMMUNION, is an important part of being an Anglican. For us, the Eucharist is our daily bread, food for our journey. It is to be celebrated frequently, on all occasions, in sorrow and in joy. In our parish all baptised Christians are welcome to receive the Eucharist.

BAPTISM

Except for emergency situations Baptisms are celebrated at a Sunday service in the presence of the congregation, to reflect the inclusive nature of Christianity.
For adults a member of the congregation sponsors, and supports the initiate.
Children have at least two God- parent sponsors.
Easter and the day of Pentecost are ideal times for Baptism.
There is no charge for Baptism.
Interested parties should contact the church office, anglicanparish@bellnet.ca, 705-549-2223.

CONFIRMATION is the rite whereby a person who has been baptised receives a special grace and gifts of the Holy Spirit to strengthen him or her for a life of Christian witness and service. Candidates are given the opportunity to ‘confirm’ the promises made at baptism, either by their godparents or by themselves (if they were baptised as adults). The proper minister of the sacrament is a bishop who represents the whole church. In a sense, confirmation ‘completes’ the rites of initiation begun in baptism. A short course of preparatory lessons and discussions is normally held before a person is confirmed.
